In 1818 a fellowship formed where the church stands today.  There was
a fellowship outside of Bath also.  Both churches disbanded and united
as one on March 16, 1842.  Twenty-one people signed the new covenant
with the pastor, Rev. Moses Rowley.  In 1843, at the same time the
Village of Bath was incorporated, the new church was incorporated and
given the name "First Baptist Society of Bath."  A wooden church was
built on the present Howell Street property in 1844.  In 1887, the church
was destroyed by fire, and the present brick and masonry structure was
erected in 1888.  Our pews remain from the original church.  Sitting in
those pews let's you know that people's stature of 100 years ago was not
the same as people's stature today!

Through the years, there have been many people that stood out and up
for the Lord's work.  It would be a shame to mention a few and not
others.  There works will be noted on Judgement Day.  It is sufficient to
say God has used many people to do His work to lead others to
salvation.  Among the faithful have been pastors, choir leaders, board
members, Sunday school teachers, as well as other Christians who saw
needs and met them.

Most of the pastors that have been at Bath Baptist Church have been
here at least ten years and as long as twenty years.  There are a few
exceptions both ways.  Because of the length of time that the pastors
stayed, they were able to impact the church.  One impact was growth.
There have been several additions to the original structure because of
pastors' visions.  There are  now rooms for Sunday school classes,
nursery, fellowship meals, and youth groups.  Our building has been
used to meet various needs of our community.  At one time our church
owned three buses which transported people from all over the village for
Sunday school classes and church.  We still own a bus garage, which is
currently used as a storage facility for the RISE outreach ministry of
churches from New Jersey.

Another notable ministry has been the "preaching."  Some pastors had
visions of others preaching and ministering to the flock.  After several
decades, one of our members still recalls a service when a little girl
preached a very powerful sermon.  Many facets of ministry have been
encouraged and supported by the pastors.  These include children's
sermons, often delivered by lay people.  At one time, there were two
worship services.  Throughout the years, services have been led by both
the pastor and lay people.  Pastors have initiated and encouraged the
power of prayer through teachings, prayer chain, Wednesday's praise
and prayer night, and individual's anointing and prayer in services.
Lay people are involved in our music ministry, using their voices and
variety of instruments.

Turning points that our church has celebrated have included the
ordination, installation, and milestones in ministry of pastors;
celebrations for the Centennial in 1942 and Bicentennial in 1988; the
National Day of Prayer; second grade and high school graduations and
Children's Sunday.
